Summary   Administers basic and advanced life support care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital setting as authorized and directed by physician by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The duties outlined below represent the majority of responsibilities required to execute this position. Other duties may be assigned related to this type of work as necessary. •  Responds to all emergent, urgent, and non-emergent calls as directed. •  Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed, or need for additional assistance. •  Provides appropriate basic and advanced life support to patients including assessments, cardiac monitoring, initiation of intravenous fluids, performing endotracheal intubation to open airways and ventilating patient, administration of oxygen and/or medications, transporting, monitoring, and relaying vital signs, and other functions in keeping with accepted pre-hospital emergency care. •  Assists in extricating trapped victims and transports sick and injured persons to treatment center. •  Observes, records, and reports to physician patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. •  Drives ambulance on county business including emergency runs and community events as needed. •  Communicates with hospital, physician, and other medical personnel in person and by radio-telephone. •  Keeps current on treatment techniques, protocol changes, and application of new drugs, material, and equipment. •  Provides public education related to safety and public health, including basic first-aid and CPR, as requested. •  Prepares accurate patient documentation reports. •  Attends training functions. •  Communicates with leadership regarding acquisition and restocking of needed supplies, material, and equipment. •  Cleans and maintains emergency vehicles, facilities, and equipment. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience High school graduate or equivalent, and Paramedic certificate from an Emergency Medical Technology Program. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations   Degree or certification in EMT/Paramedic studies with State registry and/or National registry. Certification in ACLS, PHTLS, BLS, PALS, and CPR. Possession of a valid South Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
